The composition of the floor with our carbon heating film is the alpha-omega of our daily operation in our company. There is not a day when at least one customer and us do not solve the composition of the floors in his building. That’s why we decided to summarize important information about possible solutions in this article.
Today, underfloor heating systems are the most frequently chosen way of heating homes. Thanks to the heat from the feet, you get unique thermal comfort that no other method of heating can offer. The floating floor when implementing any type of underfloor heating must be certified for underfloor heating. Almost all floor manufacturers have floors with this purpose in their portfolio. They can be easily distinguished thanks to this or a similar-looking pictogram:
There are two variants of installation of the LARX CARBON-FILM.COM heating system – under screed / floor boards or directly under the floating floor covering. The heating foil is always anchored to the floor insulation layer (polystyrene or PIR boards in case of installation under screed, hobra / starlon in case of installation directly under the roofing).
Installation under screed/floor boards
With the classic method of installation under screed or floorboards, the customer can choose any covering, whether folded (so-called click system), glued or tiles. The height of the screed / floorboard layer affects the accumulative capacity of the floor – the thicker the layer, the more heat the floor accumulates and the slower the space cools down when the heating is switched off. On the other hand, the more pronounced the heat accumulation, the slower the reaction of the underfloor heating, because it takes longer for the heat to pass through the accumulation layer.
When installed under screed or floorboards, the carbon heating film is anchored to a layer of floor insulation, ie polystyrene or PIR insulation boards. This is followed by a layer of PE foil 0.2 mm thick, which serves as protection. In the case of cast floors, the heating system is separated from the screed layer by a second layer of cover PE foil, which fulfills a separating function. It connects to the peripheral dilatation along the edges, with which it creates a so-called “bath”. When installing under floorboards, a second foil is not required. Folded or glued floors, tiles, trowels, etc. can be used for screed or system floor boards.
The minimum height of the floor composition when installed under screed or floorboards is approx. 5 cm (2 cm PIR boards – heating foil – 2 cm floorboards – 1 cm any covering). The maximum height of the floor composition is not limited in any way. It all depends on the type of installation, the height of the insulation, the distribution layer in the building where the LARX CARBON-FILM.COM heating system is implemented.
Installation directly under floating floor
In modern, well-insulated houses, the installation of carbon foil directly under vinyl or laminate flooring is used. The condition is that it must be folded (so-called click system). This heating system has great dynamics, fast heating and practically no overheating of the room. In rooms where a floor other than a floating floor is planned (bathroom, corridor, etc.), the installation of carbon foil under the screed or floor board will be used. It is not possible to glue any floor covering directly to the heating film.
When installed directly under the folded roofing, the carbon foil is anchored in a layer of impact insulation (hobra / starlon). Cable ways are cut into the insulation boards so that the surface for laying the floating floor is level, without any protrusions. The heating film is covered with a layer of covering PE foil with a thickness of 0.2 mm. This is followed by the completion of the floating floor without restrictions, so the procedure is the same as if the heating film was not there.
The minimum height of the floor composition when installed directly under the folded roofing is approx. 1.5 cm (0.5 cm hobra – heating foil – 1 cm floating floor). The maximum height of the floor is not limited, it usually ranges up to 5 cm. It all depends on the height of the insulation, and the height of the installed floor.
